The NPA Parking Safety Certificate Program is designed to provide parking professionals and leaders with the knowledge to develop a safety plan, implement safety procedures and equip staff to appropriately handle incident management. The program brings knowledge from the parking industry, National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) protocols. This is a skills competency certificate that builds fundamental knowledge in the application of safety practices within the parking environment.

How to Earn the Certificate:
To earn the Parking Safety certificate, you must complete the 3 following courses. Each course includes a final assessment. To successfully complete the certificate program, you must score a 70% or higher on the final assessment for each course. Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a certificate and earn 3 credit hours.
Parking Safety Fundamentals—Assessment Planning & Training
Assess safety needs. This is the first step in understanding needs & developing a facility-focused safety plan for your organization. Learn the fundamental components of a safety plan—so you can develop a plan, policies & procedures for safer parking. Find out how to train staff & prepare them to be safety ambassadors.
- Learn about location based risk assessments as well as active and passive safety measures.
- Understand safety plan components and how to develop and implement procedures.
- Identify staff training needs and facility based solutions for employee and parker safety.
Case Study: Facility Design, Lighting, Technology & Wayfinding for Safety
Learn about 10 key areas of parking safety. An interactive case study demonstrates how you implement processes, systems, technologies and design features to create a safer overall environment. In this course, you see how interrelated design, systems and signage/lighting can discourage crime and reduce injury. Learn various techniques to optimize safe and secure parking locations.
- Identify safety equipment technology for potential use.
- Understand how facility lighting and design standards influence safety perception.
- Learn how inter-related elements have a synergist impact on safety.
Safety in Action: Identifying Risks, Response & Incident Handling
This course aids you in safety management and can help you develop a plan to train staff in the essential steps to manage risk: 1) identify, 2) report, 3) resolve and 4) mitigate. Through the use of case studies, learn how to mitigate risk through action. Gain knowledge about how to manage potential liability. Learn about CPTED and key concepts on incident handling from the NIMS.
