Privacy Policy

The National Parking Association has developed this Privacy Policy to demonstrate our commitment to your privacy. The Privacy Statement describes the information we collect and how we use this information.

You may not provide information to us unless you are at least 13 years of age. By providing information, you consent to the policies and practices described herein. The majority of data we collect is used to help us serve our members and registered site users. Our policy is to collect and store only the personal information that our members and visitors provide. If our privacy policy changes, we will notify users by email or via an announcement on the website.

Site Visitors. NPA does not collect any personal information from users browsing its website. Only aggregate data, such as page views are collected. Aggregate data is used for internal and marketing purposes to describe site traffic and does not use personally identifying information.

NPA Members, Registered Site Users, and Other Product Purchasers. To gain access to site user and/or members-only content, groups and personalization features, you are asked to register with the site and provide some limited information online or through membership applications or other NPA order or registration forms.

Additionally, for some emails sent in HTML format by NPA to its members through its listservs, forums and electronic newsletters, we will collect specific information regarding what the recipient does with that email. For those emails, NPA will monitor whether a recipient subsequently clicks through to links provided in the message. Other information collected through this tracking feature includes: email address of a user, the date and time of the user's "click," a message number, name of the list from which the message was sent, tracking URL number and destination page. NPA uses this information to gather open rates and distribution list effectiveness and email bounce rates. This information is not sold or distributed in any other manner.

How Does NPA Use Collected Data? NPA uses information voluntarily submitted in several ways: 1) to provide site access based on user stats, e.g. member vs registered site user; 2) to deliver content customized to user preferences and industry sector; 3) to develop industry products and services and 4) to provide access to members only groups and functionality.

Disclosures to Third Parties. NPA makes member contact information available through the NPA Membership directory and to those who register for its educational conferences/forums. NPA may incorporate information users provide into hard copies of the Membership Directory that it provides to members or sells to requesters. On occasion, NPA may also provide limited data to third parties that offer products and services. Users may contact NPA at webmaster@weareparking.org to express their preferences if they determine later that they do not wish to have the information shared.

Consent to Use Personal Information. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act(s) 1984 and 1998 (as applicable), NPA or its agents must store, host and otherwise process the information (including personal data) supplied by the User when registering for this website. NPA may send such data outside the European Economic Area for processing. If you reside in the European Union, please indicate your consent that the personal information you have provided may be transferred and stored in countries outside of the EU, including the United States. User supplies as defined above when registering for the website in order to allow NPA (or its designated agents) to use the information to send the User unsolicited direct mail advertisements, promotions, and solicitations for third parties' products and services.

Credit Card Account Information. NPA does not disclose credit card account information provided by its members and customers. When you pay using a credit card, NPA submits the information needed to the appropriate clearinghouse.

How Does NPA Use Cookies?

Cookies: A randomly generated unique number placed on your hard drive is a cookie. It allows us to identify your computer, so you don’t have to disclose any non-public personal information. Cookies enable the storage and retrieval of information through your Internet browser. A cookie itself cannot read the information.

A primary purpose of cookies is convenience. For example, a cookie informs our server that you have returned to our website. Because the cookie allows our server to recall your unique information on subsequent visits, you will not be required to enter your user name and password.

NPA uses cookies to facilitate automated activity, store and track passwords, determine appropriate solicitations, and review navigation patterns. Cookies are not used to disseminate significant information about Users over the Internet or to analyze any information that Users have knowingly or unknowingly provided. When a user registers, the system will ask whether the user approves of the attachment of a cookie. Users may instruct their Internet browsers to opt out of accepting a "persistent" cookie and rather accept only a "per-session" cookie, but will need to login each time they visit the site to enjoy the full benefits. If the user declines the attachment of any cookie, the user may not have access to the full benefits of the website. Registration enables the site to better determine members' interest areas and provide the most relevant information.

We recommend that you enable the cookies on your browser. If we allow third-party servers to place ads on our website, they may also use small pieces of code called “Web beacons” or “clear gifs” to collect anonymous and aggregate advertising metrics, such as counting page views, promotion views, or advertising responses. Advertisers who deliver cookies may use these Web beacons. In no event will a cookie discover any of your non-public personal information without your knowledge.

Privacy Issues with Links to Other?  This website contains links to outside websites. NPA does not have any control or responsibility for the privacy, function or content of other websites.

How is Information Disclosed? Unless otherwise required by law, we use and disclose your nonpublic personal information only as necessary to carry out our mission and to advance the interests of small businesses in the United States. This may include, without limitation: selectively sharing your non-public personal information with our partners; alerting you of relevant legislative and political initiatives; notifying you of the benefits of NPA membership offered by our partners; and updating you about our objectives, lobbying practices and activities of our PAC and foundations. We will not sell or otherwise disclose your non-public personal information to any third party unless such third party is performing services for or on our behalf and is bound by an obligation of confidentiality.

Who Are Our Partners? We may have vendor agreements to offer affinity discounts on products and services. We periodically engage call centers, mailing houses, printers, research firms and other third-party representatives to assist us in servicing our members. Other partners are organizations actively involved in the political decision-making process.

How Do We Use & Disclose Information? General information allows us to measure members’ participation in programs using demographic and industry indicators, as well as through polling and survey voting patterns to provide input into research, advocacy and product/service review and/or development. General information collected on our website (such as user behaviors) may be used to internally help administer the website and detect server problems.

How do We Protect Confidentiality of Your Non-Public Information? We have taken reasonable steps to assign passwords, encrypt sensitive data and protect our databases, servers and other information storage locations from unauthorized access. Our employees are subject to written policies regarding the use and disclosure of your non-public personal information. These precautions are not an absolute guarantee of security from unauthorized access and you submit all non-public personal information at your own risk.

How Can You Opt In and Opt out of Receiving Emails?  You can visit the Subscribe page to opt in to email lists and email newsletters. You can click, Contact Us or email webmaster@weareparking.org or call 202-296-4336 or write to NPA, 1112 16th Street, NW, Suite 840, Washington, DC 20036 to unsubscribe from a particular email.

Social Media Policy
NPA uses social media tools to facilitate interaction among members and to enable members to interact with each other. NPA uses blogs, wikis, social networking sites, private groups and online forums, as well as other tools.

NPA maintains an all member forum and parking sector forums, as well as peer networking groups on its site. NPA national committees and Boards may also have private groups/forums on the site. The NPA Member Directory is an online profile directory that is searchable by members only 24/7. NPA maintains a YouTube Channel, LinkedIn Group, Facebook Page and Twitter feeds @NatParkAssoc. Current NPA hashtags include #WLF2015, #NPAExpo, #IamNPA and #WeAreParking.
